hell yeah me too J! Love the sound and a fantastic show too. Even Cliff listens and you know how much he hates AUD's. Granted there's no SBD but still

The two auds of this show are great but MOTB version is awesome. Gotta love those great sounding AUD masters.

I very rarely venture into the 60s esp because I dislike Pigs vocals and the "heavy blues" sound {gasps and ducks thrown objects} they have then.
I do love the jazzy/country 70s for a nice mellow night of enhanced headphone listening and it's straight 80's to get the party rockin!

The first set of this show is available in a less than perfect quality soundboard...

And I while this one remains among my very favorite audience recordings, the quality of the second set jam at the Taper's Section blows the audience recording out of the water...

Whoa, how is Lemieux just going to slip that one in there and not even mention that this is a board??? And a freakin' beautiful one at that??? Think I'm going to have to capture this stream and put it on a cd for future listening.

I rarely keep up with the Taper's Section, I always love it when people point out the more desirable segments, like this one. I saved a copy of that comprehensive list someone made a while back, but I don't think that has been updated in a while, I should really start paying attention. Hell this one was from 2 years ago and I still missed it! Thanks for the link, BIG TIME.

Thanks Cliff for pointing this one out from the Taper's Section - slipped by under my radar. I was at both this night and 6/30 - they both were wonderful gigs with great, friendly vibes from both the audience and the facility people. The band seemed ultra-relaxed with lots of smiles and on-stage hi-jinks throughout. Nice to hear the soundboard after all of the years.

i'd hardly say 'blows' the aud out of the water; clearly you are employing more than a bit of hyperbole in your choice of idiom; the MOTB audience is, while not 'outstanding' when compared across the entire spectrum [66-95], but for the time period in question, it is a remarkable recording, one of the best available, and which compares quite favorably to that sample at the taper section; in fact, i found the SBD segment a bit lacking in umph and energy, whereas the audience recording sustained my interest to a high degree; methinks you should listen again, my friend

"...the MOTB audience is, while not 'outstanding' when compared across the entire spectrum [66-95]..."

Actually Thomas, I think the 7/1/73 Aud IS outstanding. And certainly superior to the soundboard transfer of the first set portion.

However, I stand by my statement that the vault stream "blows the audience recording out of the water."

I loathe audience recordings. I know of only a very few that I would ever choose over the available soundboard, and certainly not a vault remaster!

Have a great weekend!

cliff, i'm wondering how you feel about the 6/24/70 recording? Surely you must be able to get past your hatred for audience tapes to listen to the incredible second set jam?

sure would be great if there was a soundboard somewhere out there... wish they published everything that exists in the vault so we could all at least know what they're keeping from us.

I love all the Capitol Theater shows. Particularly 3/21/70. And as I stated last week, I listened to the Dark Star> Attics from 6/24/70 during a New Year's Chimora ceremony a few years ago and had a profound expeience. I will listen to audience recordings when no soundboard exists for a performance.

I think it's pretty certain that none of the Port Chester performances prior to 1971 are in the vault.

However Lemieux did include a snippet of 11/8/70 from a an audience recording at the Taper's Section...

Hi Cliff. Sorry if I've missed something obvious, but is there a list of Tapers' Sections somewhere ? You've referred to it a few times recently so (to coin an American phrase that hasn't caught on here yet) you must be the go-to guy.

The last list of Tapers Sections is here:
http://www.archive.org/iathreads/post-view.php?id=276620

I see I failed to write that 7/1/73 was an SBD, which was definitely an oversight since it grabbed my attention immediately!
By the way, the selections from 9/15 and 9/16/72 are also SBDs.

Also, I was in a discussion a couple days ago about which of these selections are not circulating.

I haven't updated the list since November - I intend to, but haven't been very excited by Lemieux's recent selections.

Each week I highlight and note Lemieux's selections in my copy of Deadbase. So I can look up a specific show to see if it is in the vault. I also highlight what has been released officially; DP's, Road Trips, Vault, etc. in different colors, as I'm sure some other folks here do as well.

I have not made any list or catalogue by date of what has been at the Taper's Section, however, Light into Ashes keeps such a list. He shares it here from time to time. Perhaps if he sees this he will post an update for you. In the meantime, I'm sure you can find one of his past lists by searching through his old posts...

I didn't realize that you could scroll through others old posts when I first came aboard . It's always the small , simple , silly things . There is a wealth of information on some old posts . Begin w/ LiA and Clff . Many others have also contributed . When you think about the time , effort and love put into some of these posts it's amazing .

I've been reading this forum for at least 5 years and still don't know how people dig up older posts. Sometimes I think the interface on here could be better in terms of searchability and the way it "cascades" or stacks up the responses to others' posts and such. It's still a great forum, though.
